The American Egyptian Youth Network (AEYN) invites qualified candidates to apply to our Summer Internship Program. Interns will play a vital role in contributing to AEYN’s development while gaining valuable experience working in a fast-paced, professional environment. Interns will be given substantive responsibilities that will enable them to develop a diverse set of skills, including communications and social media, research and writing, and planning and logistics.

AEYN is a U.S.-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization recently launched by first generation Egyptian-Americans. Driven by a profound awareness that Egypt’s fate is ultimately tied to the fate of its youth, AEYN’s mission is to build a community of Americans who wish to support the advancement of Egyptian youth. AEYN promotes intercultural intelligence among Americans and Egyptians, and facilitates the exchange of expertise, ideas and resources among the Egyptian diaspora and Americans at large for the benefit of Egyptian youth.
Interns will work closely with AEYN staff and volunteers to:
- Undertake outreach efforts to expand AEYN’s network, including helping develop local partners and increase youth engagement;
- Provide business development and administrative support for AEYN pilot programs, including web portals and exchange programs;
- Organize events that raise awareness and foster constructive discourse on issues impacting Egyptian youth; and
- Develop content for AEYN’s social media platforms and expand AEYN’s social media presence.
Who May Apply? Undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students, as well as recent graduates, are welcome to apply. Candidates should be committed to AEYN’s mission. A background in political science, international affairs, economics, Middle East studies, or a related field is preferred but not required. Applicants should have a positive, proactive attitude, strong writing and research skills, and be well-organized and detail-oriented.
When is the Internship? The Summer Internship Program will run from May 11th -August 31st, 2015.
When Should I Apply? Applications will be considered on a rolling basis through May 1st 2015; however, there is limited space in the program so applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
What is the Time Commitment? Interns will work an average of 10 to 20 hours per week. Please indicate how many hours per week you are available in your cover letter.
Where does the Internship Take Place? Interns must be based in or near New York City. Interns will mostly work remotely but will work from the AEYN National office with the AEYN team at least once a week in New York City.
Are Compensation and Academic Credit Available? AEYN will support interns’ efforts to obtain academic credit for the internship. In addition, AEYN interns will be eligible for a Stipend of up to $500 based on the successful completion of the internship. AEYN is committed to supporting the professional development of its interns by facilitating mentorships, networking opportunities, and participation in special events.
